Hello, Lochside! Happy November. We have another jam packed email today, as we are in full swing! Thank you for taking time to read everything over. Please check out our updates/reminders below:
1) Email Request Reminder: Please mark our emails as Safe/Not SPAM
UPDATE: Right now, we are getting may bounced emails and folks marking us as SPAM. 😩 Doing this will hurt our ability to send emails if it keeps happening, and some platforms may ban accounts if it happens too often. Please unsubscribe instead of marking as SPAM, if you wish to opt-out of emails. We always have an unsubscribe button in our emails. Thank you.
Please help us make sure we get into everyone's inbox. May you do us a huge favour and mark our emails as Safe/Not Spam in your email provider? It will help us greatly.
You may also want to consider adding our email to your contacts:
*If you have Gmail, you can move one of our newsletters into your priority folder, as well. This will tell Gmail to keep us out of the spam folder so you'll never miss an update!
2) Fundraiser: The Card Project (Priority Deadline Today, Nov. 3)
The children's art is online and the fundraiser is launched!
Families can see their child's art online at www.TheCardProject.ca
Use the school's access code: LX62
TAKE NOTE OF IMPORTANT DATES:
The priority order deadline is TODAY, Sunday November 3.
The final order deadline is Sunday November 17.
Please don't wait for the sample cards. The sample cards will be ready by November 12. Parents should order now with the access code.
Thank you for your support!
3) Volunteers Still Needed: This week's Book Fair
The Learning Commons is calling all volunteers to help us host another successful Book Fair this week, Nov. 5th and 6th. Set up is Nov. 4th.
If you are able to help out with our Fall Book Fair with Russell Books please sign up in one of the available slots:
We especially need help for Wed the 6th:
Cashier and Helper (145-315PM) and Pack up (315-430PM).
The Book Fair is also a great time to pick up some reading for the winter months!
A portion of proceeds from sales will be given back to the Lochside Learning Commons.
Thank you for your help. :-)
4) Coffee Fundraiser: Stick in the Mud Roastoreum (Nov. 4 - 15)
Do you like coffee? Know someone who would like the gift of coffee?
We are proud to introduce our coffee fundraiser with Stick in the Mud Roastoreum:
Orders will be collected Nov 4-15th with delivery around end on November.
All orders will be collected through the fun lunch website.
Payments can be made through the hot lunch website, or e-transfer.
Please see the attached form for your reference of the beans available and the types of grind options. You can download the form via File > Download (shown in the image below).
5) Principal/Vice-Principal Note: No Toys At School
On Oct 27, 2024, Principal Takhar emailed out the October Newsletter, including a note about toys at school:
"Thank you to all families for also helping us keep our Lochside students happy during recess time by keeping toys at home. We have been having lots of issues with children either losing their special toy, or it breaking, or even getting traded with another peer (special LEGO figures & POKEMON cards etc.). This often leads to lots of debriefing during instructional time. Our classrooms have great toys for playing during [class] time for our students to enjoy. If it is special day for your child (special helper) and they have an understanding with their teacher, of course they may bring in their sharing."
6) ⚠️ REMINDER: Please Claim Lost And Found Items ⚠️
Sukhie Maan in the front office has an important message about lost and found items:
We want to remind you about our Lost and Found system at school. With the change of seasons, items can easily get misplaced.
If your child has lost something, please encourage them to check in the main office or our Lost and Found area (located in the bins and clothing rack by the Kindergarten entrance).
We have a variety of items waiting to be claimed, including clothing, Water bottles, and personal belongings.
We kindly ask parents to remind students to label their belongings with their names. This simple step can significantly help in returning lost items.
At the end of each term, any unclaimed items will be donated to local charities, so please make sure to check before the Winter break!
Thank you for your support in helping our students keep track of their belongings.
Warm regards,

11) Coming Spring 2025: Lochside's 1st BIKE BUS (Volunteers Needed)!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BIKE BUS WILL BE FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-5 who are experienced bikers. 😊
A sign up survey will be sent out in a few weeks.
Starting spring of 2025, Lochside will trial our first bike bus program through the Emily Carr neighbourhood! We are very excited to start this initiative to get the kids active and riding their bikes to and from school. We will ride together as a pack for the start and at the end of the school day.
More details will follow in the new year... However, we need parent volunteers to get this program running! Please sign your name on the attached Google sheet to let us know if you are interested in volunteering with this initiative, or want to know more information.
Volunteers will need:
1- Bike safety training with Saanich PD Bike patrol (we will organize this when we have an idea of numbers)
2- Current criminal record check (CRC) on file with the school. If you currently do not have it, no problem! We have lots of time for you to apply and have the record check in to the school before our bike bus starts... but it is HIGHLY encouraged to get your CRC done now, as the process could take 4-6 weeks.
