1) SAVE THE DATE: Parent Engagement Evening (Wed. Jan. 29)
Please see the invite for the Parent Engagement Evening set for Wednesday January 29, 7:00 pm at Bayside Middle School.
This year, our Parent Engagement Evening will focus on the District Strategic Goal of Mental Health and Wellness.
2) 📚 This Week: The Second Literacy Initiative For The New Year 📚

This year we will be celebrating Family Literacy Day on Friday, January 24, 2025. Family Literacy Day is a day where we acknowledge and appreciate the role all families play in supporting literacy development. Whether it be a bedtime story, writing the grocery list or researching a topic together, you play a key role in your child's development. We invite family and caregivers to come in to read from 8:50-9:20 am. There is also the option to dress up as a literary character for the day.
The theme for ABC Family Literacy Day 2025 is "Learn to Be Green, Together." You will be find many valuable resources on the ABC Family Literacy Day website.
3) Volunteers Needed: Royals Game (Feb 17) Chuck-A-Puck Sellers
Join us for an afternoon of fun with the Victoria Royals.
We are looking for volunteers to help sell pucks for the Chuck-a-Puck event at the 3:05pm game. The Royals are playing the Everett Silvertips.
Please review the available slots and consider signing up for a shift or two. Kids are welcome to help too!
*Please note all volunteers including kids are required to purchase a ticket to this event.
Heads up: whichever class sells the most tickets wins cupcakes! We will have the link for ticket sales soon. :-)
4) Save The Date: VJFHA's Come Try The Game Free Day (Feb. 9)
Victoria Junior Field Hockey is offering an introduction to the sport.

5) Save The Date: Fernwood Music Bingo (Feb. 12)
The Gr. 5 Grad Committee is holding a Music Bingo night on Wednesday, February 12th at the Fernwood Inn - 1302 Gladstone Ave.
Join them for a night of music, games and prizes at their Valentine's Bingo Night! Doors open at 7:30pm.
Tickets can be purchased at https://www.showpass.com/lochside-2025-grad-music-bingo-ticket/.
Please feel free to share to friends and family. It's a fun adult evening out!
6) Reminder: Sign Up 8-Week Parenting Course (Feb. 18 to Apr. 22)
A parent shared information with our principal about an upcoming 8-week Parenting Course called, “Sidestepping the Power Struggle”, for parents of children of all ages.
It runs for eight Tuesday evenings, from Feb 18 to Apr 22.
This course will be led by Dr. Allison Rees, an experienced clinician, who has been teaching LIFE Seminars courses, counselling families, and training other professionals here in Victoria for the past 30+ years.

Orders for the next 10 fun lunch dates are open now. Orders will close at 7:00pm on Thursday the week before a given date (example - orders will close at 7:00pm on January 16 for the January 24th fun lunch). If finances prohibit your participation, please contact Principal Takhar.
💜 Fun lunch reminders:
Please make sure to send your kiddo(s) with lunch if you do not plan to purchase fun lunch.
If you do order, it's a good idea to send your kiddo(s) with some options to complement the fun lunch if they are picky eaters.
If your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please be aware that they may forfeit the lunch, as it may may not keep for long or get donated.

Our first 2025 Fun Lunch is Fri. Jan 24 (White Spot). Orders closed Jan. 16th.
